OBs, Midwives, Hospitals, Pediatricians,
Dentists, and Chiropractors in So. Nevada
As birth professional's in Southern Nevada, we are continually asked who we would refer women to for health care.  The following is a list of providers whom we've come to refer to clients for the following reasons: (but please be aware that some have also been known to not be consistent and change from client to client)

  • Flexibilty                                                                                                                            The OB's listed have been known to be supportive of women and parents who choose to have birthplans, doula's, no IV's, forego anesthesia, intermittment monitoring, choice of birthing position, etc.  The midwives have also been known to be very supportive and accomodating of client's wishes.  The peds./family docs have been known to be open to parents who wish to avoid interventions i.e. selective/no vaccinations, no circumcision, etc.  The chiropracter's tend to have above average experience in maternity and pediatric care.  The dentists have been known to be supportive of those who forgo mercury and flouride, and parents who are at odds with complete sedation or papose boards, etc.

  • Good Bedside Manner                                                                                            Treats families as a partner in the birthing and parenting process, respecting their desires and birth enviroment and parenting philosophy.

  • Professional and Good Reputation                                                                              It is important to have a balance of a caring heart, and professionalism, as well as a good reputation in behavior and skills.

We've been asked why there aren't providers listed we wouldn't refer to.  There are a few reasons for this, mainly that it is really unprofessional to bad mouth collegues.  It is my hope that families who are interested in creating a partnership with a caregiver will consider the following list, with the understanding that having had a wide range of experiences with a considerable amount of providers in town, they are one's we trust 85%-100% of the time.

Always, always interview your prospective caregiver and birthplace.  These referrals are no guarantee, just personal experiences and opinion.

A Word About Back Up doctors....
It is very common for an OB or hospital based CNM to have a back up (dr. who attends the birth instead of your hired caregiver) who does not have the same philosphies and priorities as they do.  There is always a good chance a back up will attend your birth, so please interview the back up and decide if you'd agree to having them attend you as well
